How much will it cost to buy a half or whole pork? A half pork is about 80 lbs hanging. At our current price of $3.75/lb this would cost about $300 for a half or $600 for a whole pork. What do you mean by "hanging weight"? Hanging weight refers to the weight of the animal after it has been slaughtered, but before it has been trimmed and cut up. If I buy a half or whole pork will the hanging weight be the same weight as the meat I take home? No, when the animal is trimmed and cut up, there is about 15% waste. So the meat that is cut and wrapped for you will be less then the hanging weight that you paid for. Is there a difference in taste between pastured Berkshire pork and conventionally raised pork? Yes, Berkshire pork is considered a more marbled pork. You are also likely to notice the lack of "pig barn smell" when you are cooking our pasture raised pork. Our customers have all been pleasantly impressed with the great taste of our pork. Enjoy! |
